Backyard Makeover Final Reveal

Four years ago we started our project by building a deck! We though this was the best place to start the project because it would give us the most bang for our buck right away! It was a 20×20 deck with black rod railing and gray woodgrain composite boards laid in a herringbone pattern. It was the perfect spot for summer hangouts!

Over the next few years we painted the fencing, made ever attempt to get the grass looking better, and hung patio lights! We always thought the area at the bottom of the steps would be a great place for a patio for extra seating but never felt we had a complete vision of how we wanted the space to function! We are so glad we waited because this past summer we decided to dive all in—literally—and added an in-ground pool.

We went back and forth on where to place the pool—at one point, we even imagined it on the complete opposite side of the house! But it didn’t take long to realize that having it close to the deck, within sight of where we’d be hanging out, eating, and grilling, made the most sense. So, we centered it behind the garage, and now the bonus room windows offer an incredible view of the pool! Connecting the deck to the pool area and patio created an entirely new flow.

Another reason the project took so long is because we had some storm damage that needed attention. Replacing the siding was a big job and we thought it would be smart to hold off on final landscaping to prevent and damage. We finally got the green light to refresh our siding! We chose a board and batten siding and painted it Sherwin Williams White Duck!

The patio gave us the perfect area for some new lounge seating a dining nook with a table, umbrella, and bench seats from Room & Board. It’s the best spot for snacks and casual gatherings! Our favorite spot to relax and take in the sun are the four lounge chairs at the deep end of the pool!

We couldn’t be happier with how were able to incorporate the design of our existing Room & Board outdoor furniture on the deck, into the new pieces for the pool patio. The furniture really pulls everything together, creating a space that’s not only functional for lounging, dining, and entertaining but also feels warm and inviting—just the way we always envisioned it!

Now that the project is finished, we can’t believe how far we’ve come. We’re ready for pool parties, afternoon naps, and making memories with friends and family!
